Subscription & billing
Plans
NyayX has three plan tiers:
| Plan | Who it’s for |
|---|---|
| Free | Solo use, one seat, no team collaboration. |
| Pro | The paid self-serve plan - team seats, storage add-ons, finances, GST-TDS, analytics and the rest of the feature set. |
| Firm | For larger firms with custom needs. Assigned by the NyayX team rather than bought through the in-app checkout. |
Pro is billed monthly or annually - that’s the only choice you’ll see in Change Plan. Annual billing applies a discount over paying month to month and is charged as a single upfront payment for the year.
Prices (per seat, per extra seat, per GB of storage, per extra mobile device) are shown live wherever you’re about to pay - the Change Plan screen, Add Seats, Buy Storage and Add Device Slot dialogs all pull current pricing before you confirm, so always check the amount shown there rather than assuming it’s fixed.
Viewing your current plan
Open Settings → Billing. You’ll see:
- Current plan name and price
- Billing cycle (monthly or annual)
- Next renewal date
- Seats used vs. seats included - displayed as e.g. 1/2 seats, plus any add-on seats you’ve purchased
- Storage used vs. your current storage limit
- Outstanding amount, if any
How seats and invites work together
Each workspace member counts as one seat. Your plan ships with a base
number of seats (baseMembers); anything you buy on top is tracked as
addOnSeats, and the two add up to your seat cap (maxMembers). The seat
count includes:
- Yourself (the owner)
- Every active member with status Accepted
- Every invite you’ve sent that’s still Pending - an invite reserves a seat as soon as you send it, so the seats-used number goes up right away
So if you’ve used all your seats and want to invite one more person, NyayX blocks the invite and points you here.
Adding seats
When you hit your seat cap and try to invite a new member, you’ll see:
All N seats are in use. Purchase additional seat add-ons from Billing to invite more members.
To buy more seats:
Settings → Billing.
In the Members panel, click Buy More Seats →, or navigate directly to Settings → Billing → Add Extra Seats. Use the +/- picker to choose how many seats to add.
Each seat is prorated against the days remaining in a 30-day billing month (not your actual cycle length), plus 18% GST. The dialog shows the exact breakdown - per-seat rate, days remaining, subtotal, GST and total - before you pay.
A Razorpay payment dialog opens. Once payment succeeds, your seat cap is updated immediately - you can send the invite right after.
Seats you buy this way stay active until the end of your current billing period, then renew automatically at the full monthly rate for as long as your subscription keeps renewing. Each purchase generates a GST invoice in your Billing History under the SUB-YYYY-YY-NNNN numbering series (separate from your case-fee invoices, which use INV-YYYY-YY-NNNN). Download any invoice by clicking the download icon next to it.
Removing a member does not refund the prorated amount already paid for that seat; the seat slot just becomes available for a fresh invite at no extra charge.
Extra storage
Your document vault has a storage limit that starts at whatever your plan includes and grows with any storage you buy.
Available once you’re on a paid plan.
Pick between 1 and 100 GB using the +/- picker. The cost breakdown (price per GB, GST, total) updates as you change the amount.
Unlike seats, storage is not prorated - you pay the full monthly rate for the GB you add regardless of when in your cycle you buy it. It’s added to your vault immediately and renews monthly at the same rate for as long as your subscription keeps renewing.
Storage purchases also appear in Billing History under the SUB- series.
Extra mobile device slot
Every paid plan includes one mobile session slot - one phone or tablet signed in to the NyayX mobile app at a time. If your team needs a second device signed in simultaneously (e.g. a phone and a tablet, or two phones), you can buy one extra device slot per subscription.
Available on paid plans only.
The dialog shows the flat monthly price plus GST - there’s no proration. Once payment succeeds the slot activates immediately.
Only one extra slot can be purchased per subscription - this add-on is about letting one extra device stay signed in, not about unlimited concurrent logins. It’s separate from the web session rule below: mobile and web session limits are tracked independently.
Upgrading or changing plans
Billing → Change Plan. A comparison screen appears with a Monthly/Annual toggle.
- Upgrade - you’re charged the prorated difference for the rest of the current cycle, based on the unused value of your current plan.
- Downgrade - the change is scheduled for your next renewal date so you don’t lose paid time; your current plan stays active until then.
If your member count exceeds the new plan’s base seats, the difference bills as add-on seats.
For upgrades, complete the Razorpay payment. Your plan is active the moment payment confirms. Buying or changing seats, storage or a device slot mid-cycle never resets your renewal date - you keep the same next billing date either way.
Renewals and grace period
If a renewal payment fails, your subscription enters a 7-day grace period - you keep access to your base plan while you fix payment. A banner on the dashboard reminds you with a countdown. During grace your data is safe and nothing is deleted.
One thing to know: seat and device-slot add-ons don’t get the grace period - they expire the moment the subscription itself expires, right when grace starts, not at the end of it. So if you were relying on add-on seats to stay above your base seat count, those extra seats drop out immediately and the workspace can end up over its (now-lower) seat cap until you renew.
If payment still hasn’t succeeded when the 7-day grace period ends, the workspace is automatically moved to the Free plan - your data stays intact, but Free-plan limits (seats, cases, features) apply from that point on until you resubscribe.
When a renewal succeeds, any seat, storage or device-slot add-ons you had are reactivated and carried forward into the new cycle.
Sessions: one active web login per account
NyayX allows one active web session per account. If you sign in on a second browser or device, the previous session is signed out automatically. A countdown overlay on the displaced device informs you and redirects to the login page.
Account sharing is not supported - each team member must have their own NyayX account.
The mobile app has its own session limit (one device by default, or two with an extra device slot), separate from the web session, so using both at once is fine.
Downloading invoices
All billing invoices are listed under Billing → Billing History. Click the download icon next to any invoice to get the PDF. The list includes:
- Regular subscription cycle invoices
- Seat add-on purchase receipts (SUB-… series)
- Storage add-on receipts
- Device-slot add-on receipts
What is NOT charged as a seat
- Case shares to non-members - sharing one specific case (see Sharing a single case) does not consume a seat. You can share unlimited cases with external co-counsel without upgrading.
- Pending invites that get rejected or expire - the seat is released the moment status changes.
